About Us

HOUSE
Airlie Mount Mansion has a lot of history behind it. It was built in 1868, and owned by a Mr John Smith. Mr Smith also owned a local jute factory. He was a very wealthy man, who also put a lot of money into Canadian Railways in the 1800's. He lost a lot of money and decided to sell the house to the British Linen Bank. During the Second world war, Airlie Mount Mansion was used as a Polish convalescence home. It wasn't until 1948 that the mansion was turned into a hotel. When this happened, it was the first hotel to do marriages in the area, and the first place ladies could go to drink alcohol in public without being frowned upon.
